The five cent plastic bag levy that is dividing city council is illegal price fixing, according to a right ralph lauren outlet online wing tax advocacy group.
The Toronto Taxpayers Coalition says they have filed a complaint with the federal Competition Bureau.
“We’re not saying people shouldn’t be charged for the bag, we’re saying it shouldn’t be a fixed price,” said Matthew McGuire, president of the 600 member group.

Mayor Rob Ford’s executive committee voted to scrap the bag tax, which was introduced in 2009, but they face opposition on the council floor from Councillor Michelle Berardinetti (Ward 35, Scarborough Southwest).
She is hoping to have the profits from the bag tax used to fund the city’s tree canopy program.
The council will vote on the matter in June.
